Can you give up an hour or two … or more of your time each month? Do you love the Tillamook County Coastline, its history and wildlife? If so, you may be a candidate for a position on the Board of Directors of Cape Meares Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge, Inc.
Board members and volunteers have several options available. Members can spend time in the gift shop at the historic lighthouse. They also act as interpreters at the information center located in the parking lot above the Cape Meares Lighthouse. Moreover, they urge protection and appreciation of wildlife in the area.
The “shortest in stature” of all Oregon lighthouses, Meares is known for its simplistic beauty and longevity. Built in 1889 and commissioned a year later, the lighthouse has been a critical part of Tillamook County history ever since.
The Friends of Cape Meares meet on the second Thursday of alternating months. Meetings are held at the Netarts Community Club on HWY 131 in Netarts. Meetings are “potluck” style and held at 6pm. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 13. Several new board members will be introduced and the board will select a treasurer.
Board members pay a $10 membership fee and are asked to serve a three-year term. Community members are encouraged to attend a meeting and learn more about the work of this vital organization.
