Nehalem Bay Area History Classes presented by Mark Beach, Ph.D.

You are invited to enjoy learning about the long and rich history of Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler and surrounding communities. Join us each Monday and Thursday from Oct 16 to Nov 2, 4:00 to 5:30 PM, at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita. Mark Beach is a retired professor of history who has studied and taught about our local history for 24 years.

Course Outline:
From Indians to homesteaders : Two centuries of Nehalem country October 16 Monday
Sailors and shipwrecks : Mystery rocks, beeswax and treasure October 19 Thursday
Selling the seashore : Manzanita, Neahkahie and state parks October 23 Monday
The when and why of local taxes : School, cities and special districts October 26 Thursday
Volunteers building community : Nonprofit organizations and their partners October 30 Monday
Water, wind and fire : 400 years of disasters and emergencies November 2 Thursday
Cost $35 for current Historical Society members
 $50 for others: includes one-year membership
 Fees include local history DVD and map
 $10 drop-in fee for single class session
Registration To register on the first day of class, please arrive at 3:45 PM
To pre-register please choose one of these ways :
• Mail check payable to Nehalem Valley Historical Society to PO Box 704, Manzanita, OR 97130
• Or bring your fee to the Historical Society at 225 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita
Time and location of classes– 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Pine Grove Community House, 225 Laneda in Manzanita
