Garibaldi Maritime Museum Presents: Coast Guard Then and Now, Aug. 11 and Aug. 18

Posted on August 7, 2018 by Editor

The Garibaldi Museum is hosting two living history presentations in the month of August.
On Saturday, August 11th at 4pm, Retired USCG Captain Ole Olson will be presenting his view of what it was like to be in active duty during the mid-20th Century. He will be presenting the past duties, of the Coast Guard, and the way it formed to present day. Captain Olson is a respected and well-known citizen who volunteers his time for the greater good of the county.

In conjunction with Captain Olson’s presentation, BMC James B. Corbisiero will be presenting the current day responsibilities of the USCG as it pertains to the public. The importance of the USCG to our community is vital to everyday life on the coast.
After the presentations, the Garibaldi Museum will be holding a beer-tasting event with light refreshments until 7pm. Please join us as we thank the people who protect us.

On Saturday, August 18th at 1 – 2pm, Pat Patterson will be presenting his experiences while serving as a Coast Guardsman patrolling the beaches of Tillamook County during WWII. Pat was also the last Coast Guard Reserve Lighthouse Keeper at Cape Meares. Pat’s stories will bring you back to the time in the era of unknown surprise invasions. Please join us as we welcome Mr. Patterson.
The speaker events are free, but there is a $3 charge for USCG Beer Tasting on the 11th.
