Hi there, I am Jenny from the Y! If you have not noticed, we have been trying to emphasize the impact of the Y by showing that so many people in our community use the Y and their services.
This past weekend (April 6 & 7) we hosted a “Jail & Bail” fundraiser with support from Tillamook Motor Company and volunteers from Tillamook County Sheriff’s office. Lt. Horton, Sgt. Seaholm, and Sgt. Kelly volunteered their time to help us arrest community members who then had to raise “bail” to get out of our “jail” at Tillamook Motor. Everyone had a great time! People were laughing and having fun while raising money for the YMCA. (See the videos on the Tillamook Y’s Facebook page.)
The event raised $17,000 in two days! This is part of the $80,000 fundraising goal for April. A lot of people do not realize that the Y gives out more than $200,000 in program and membership support to local families. This support is not just for low-income needs.
It is also for an individual or family that experiences a sudden catastrophic life change like a medical emergency or death in the family. The Y recognizes the impact a dramatic event can have on a person, so they are committed to supporting everyone to keep their social support system as intact as possible during their time of need.
