Tillamook County Family YMCA: COVID-19 Actions

Posted on March 14, 2020 by Editor

Dear community members,
While there has not been a confirmed case of COVID-19 in our community as of yet, we are taking the safest and most prudent steps we can to play our role in the community.
Over the past few days, we have taken steps to be here for the community by providing minimal services to those that desired to utilize the Y for showers or their wellness needs.
To be prudent, we increased cleaning intervals, cancelled all classes until curb large groups in small spaces and also suspended all sports programs. Our aquatics team is consistently soaking aquatics items such as kickboards, buoys, noodles, etc. in the pool to utilize chlorination to clean items. We also propped open most doors open to make reduce the number of items commonly touched.

Usage has dropped significantly indicating that community members are taking action of staying home and practicing social distancing. With this evaluation, it demonstrates that the need for our current services is relatively low. Because of the demonstration of need we will be closing for two days to take advantage of low service impact to sanitize and take additional steps for when we reopen our facility.
At this point we will be closed Sunday and Monday, March 15th and 16th, and plan to re-open on Tuesday March 17th so that our facility can be available. Upon re-opening we will still not have classes, programs, or organized activities until further notice. We encourage social distancing in and outside of our facility as directed by health officials.
As leadership of the Y, I take very seriously the role we have in our community. I have been in close contact with other community leaders to identify what role the Y can play in our community as we learn more.

Thank you for your understanding,
Kaylan Sisco Executive Director & CEO Tillamook County Family YMCA
