Outside Ice Cream Counter at Tillamook Creamery Re-Opens, Monday-Friday

Posted on June 9, 2020June 9, 2020 by Editor

EDITOR’S NOTE: We received this information from TCCA regarding the reopening of the Creamery to “locals.” To clarify, the intent was not to restrict service to a certain group or exclude any customer groups; they are not checking IDs and won’t turn anyone away. It was planned to avoid promoting this initial reopening too widely to focus primarily on the local community, help employees get comfortable with new safety measures in place, and not attract large groups of visitors from outside the County during this initial phase of opening. This initial limited opening of the Tillamook Creamery outdoor ice cream counter is part of a slow and deliberate phased re-opening plan that will be rolling out over the next several months in accordance with federal and state guidance and in very close coordination with local Tillamook County officials as well. The safety of TCCA employees, guests and the Tillamook community continues to be the highest priority.

The TCCA Executive Team approved the first phase of re-opening our Tillamook Creamery visitors center. The outdoor ice cream counter opened Monday June 8th to the local community for to-go orders. “We hope to spread some joy to our local community with this initial opening phase. However, the safety of our employees, guests and the Tillamook community continues to be our highest priority,” said Paul Snyder, TCCA Executive Vice President of Stewardship in an email to TCCA members.

Details for this first phase of opening include:

  • Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Service is for to-go orders only.
  • No seating or access to the green space or restrooms will be available at this time.
  • A limited menu of 16 Tillamook Ice Cream flavors will be available, served in bowls only.
(After the first week, it’s possible that a few retail items like cheese curds may also be available for purchase at the outside ice cream counter. More details TBD.)
  • Only credit cards will be accepted for payment. For safety purposes, cash will not be accepted at this time.
  • All employees will wear face coverings in accordance with Oregon requirements for employees working in retail and food service environments.
  • We will not be advertising or communicating this re-opening on any of our social media or earned media channels. We intend to keep this re-opening focused on the local community by not advertising it broadly. We realize it is possible that our re-opening may cause an unwanted draw of visitors to Tillamook. We are coordinating with local officials, we are monitoring closely and we will make any changes necessary.

This re-opening will last for at least three weeks before consideration is made to move to further phases of opening. After that, we will work toward a phased opening of other parts of the Creamery, at first by invitation-only and, even when the public is welcomed back inside, it will be with careful and limited occupancy and with extra precautions and modifications to the experience to ensure safety.
