A new full color beautifully designed inspirational book featuring a collection of short stories, vintage and new photography and design, musings and memories of  memorable places of historical and cultural significance on the Northern Oregon Coast.

Across three chapters, readers will be taken on a journey that starts in Rockaway Beach and then travels from Tillamook to Astoria, The 116-page book “Storytelling” features photos and short stories on subjects including: Rockaway Beginnings (and future), Twin Rocks, Emily G. Reed Shipwreck, Rockaway Train Depot, Outlook Inn/Lake Lytle Hotel & Depot, The iconic Natatorium, Karla’s Smokehouse, the Big Red Cedar, Hangar B Tillamook, Garibaldi Boathouse, the Lost Bayocean, Garibaldi Smokestack (Whitney Mill Chimney), Barview Life-Saving Station, Old Wheeler Hotel, Seaside Aquarium, Terrible Tilly, Peter Iredale, Liberty Theatre, Astoria Column and more.

A limited quantity of books will be printed and available starting mid-July. The book price will be $20 and can first be purchased at Garibaldi Portside Bistro, Simply Charming in Rockaway Beach, Old Wheeler Hotel in Wheeler, Wanda’s Cafe in Nehalem, and Cloud & Leaf Bookstore in Manzanita.

There will also be an official book launch event at the Garibaldi Historic Boathouse on Tillamook Bay located at 1209 Bay Lane in Garibaldi on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 1pm-4pm. Books purchased can be signed at the book launch and Mike will talk about the book’s themes, creation process, read a few story highlights, answer questions, and share his hope that “Storytelling” will help communities continue to work together to preserve the vital cultural heritage of the area, learn from the past, and come together to create and even brighter future.

A book discussion and author signing at the Hoffman Center will be on August 8 at 4 PM.

This visual design storybook is personal, very original, and will take each reader on an inspirational journey of special places that have and will continue to matter to people who love this area. “It’s a very unique book and quite different from other local history books,” said Arseneault. It has been created to provoke and inspire and serve as a treasured keepsake for all those who love the northern Oregon Coast. Something of meaning to pass on to future generations and share with everyone.

Please send any inquiries to Mike at mikes.arseneault@gmail.com and follow this Facebook group for more launch details and additional stories.
