There was absolutely no controversy at the TSD9 board meeting last night. There were presentations by:
- High school ASB student, about what’s going on at THS;
- Speech by student Peyton Rawe about Farmers’ mental health issues. This is a speech she will be giving at an FFA speech competition;
- Senior Project presentation by Julie Schneidecker about Every Fifteen Minutes, a two-day in-school program about the dangers of drinking and driving;
- Video presentation, Places and Faces at Wilson River School, including preschool, high school, Virtual Academy and the Eaglet Learning Center.
Superintendent Curt Shelley’s report included highlights of, and appreciation for, TSD’s Classified employees, TEA contract negotiations, an update of projects throughout the district, a pretty thorough update of legislative issues that were addressed during the short legislative session, and lastly about enrollment numbers in our district.
The board voted to extend contracts of probationary staff and teachers, approved a few changes to the 2022/23 school calendar and the draft of the 2023/24 school calendar, and approved out-of-country student trips. Six policies that need to be reviewed and revised were presented to the board for the first reading and will be addressed at a future board meeting. Jennifer Guaracello gave an update of all the grants that are active and pending.
During the portion of the agenda that was open to public comment, one person spoke. She told us her story of what it’s like to move through life with autism and shared some of her challenges as a TSD teacher with autism. It was an inspiring story to hear.
The meeting was adjourned by 7:00 pm.
