Response to “Crunch Time at the County STR Committee” – March 13

Posted on March 22, 2023March 22, 2023 by Editor

In response to Jerry Keene’s March 13th newsletter titled, “Crunch Time at the County STR Committee…”, we are writing to take this opportunity to introduce our group.
Oregon Coast Hosts is a newly formed alliance of homeowners and local businesses who support tourism while advocating for balanced regulations that meet mutual goals for the greater community. We came together in response to the first draft of new regulations proposed for STRs. We are committed to the county’s process of collaboratively working through the draft over the next couple months with the goal being a long-term solution through balanced regulations.
STRs are an important piece of the economics of our community. Oregon Coast Hosts is committed to balancing tourism with livability, property rights, and access to the Oregon Coast for everyone. Thanks to the “Hello, Neighbor!” initiative and our current ordinance already in place, Tillamook County’s hired attorney Dan Kearns has asserted that Tillamook County is already at “the forefront of Oregon counties regulating short-term rentals.”

We appreciate The Oceansider’s editor addressing this important issue. The more the public is informed on this process and its potential impacts, the more residents of Tillamook County can make their voices heard and help in the development of sensible solutions that benefit everyone.
Just as a resident responded to clarify that Neahkahnie is not promoting a petition to ban STRs, we would like to similarly reassure our community that Oregon Coast Hosts is not threatening litigation. This is a complex legal issue, and we have retained legal advice to help us be well informed on this important topic. We agree that there is room for improvement with Ordinance #84 and its enforcement. We look forward to participating in the draft revisions as the county continues to make forward progress.
