2nd Annual North Coast Inclusion Seminar May 6th at Clatsop Community College Feature International Speaker, Emmy-Awarding Winning Keith Jones; FREE Event, Register Now, Limited Space

Posted on April 16, 2023 by Editor

Astoria School District, and The Alliance for Equity in Education at Clatsop Community College are thrilled to announce the 2nd Annual North Coast
Inclusion Seminar on Saturday May 6, from 9am to 2:30pm at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon. This event is thanks to a generous grant from Northwest Regional Educator Network and will examine the role of equity in our community and school services. The seminar will include coffee service, a keynote speaker, lunch, and networking time.
This event is FREE to all community members. Attendees can register with this link: https://clatsopcc.coursestorm.com/
The event is in its second year and the mission created by the founders is to provide educators and community leaders a place to engage in inclusive and equitable development. Inclusion for all people requires:
● learning about others and centering the lived experiences of those who our systems were not designed for,
● understanding and honoring intersectionality in order to develop self-reflective and equitable practices,
● engaging within a community where the equal worth of inherent dignity of each person is honored.

This event brings together voices from a variety of academic disciplines and communities. Please use this as a tool for “shaking up” our current system to make it welcoming and accessible for all of us – especially those furthest from power and privilege.
Keynote Keith Jones is the President and CEO of Soul Touchin’ Experiences, LLC.–an organization focused on issues of inclusion and empowerment–which affect Mr. Jones and other persons with and without disabilities. To achieve multicultural, cross-disability education and outreach, he provides services and information for people with disabilities, and tackles issues from immigration, criminal justice reform, health care, to environmental justice. Mr. Jones is a multi-talented artist and one of the founders of Krip Hop Nation which recently won an Emmy Award for their title song for the Netflix documentary of the Paralympic Games, Rising Phoenix and its critically acclaimed soundtrack.
Various breakout sessions will occur during the day:
● Land Acknowledgements & Beyond A Chinookan Perspective
● Decolonization & Education
● 2SLGBTQIA+ 101
● Resilient Communities
● Disability Accessibility
● Feminist Pedagogy
● An Equity Workout
● Inclusive Pedagogy
● BIPoC Affinity Space
● Moving from Systems of Domination towards Systems of Partnership
● Lewis & Clark: Who is That Black Man Standing Next to Clark
Masks are optional on campus. Please register in advance to secure a spot as there is a limited attendance.

This event is FREE to all community members. Attendees can register with this link: https://clatsopcc.coursestorm.com/
