GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 5/9/23 – Hot & Dry for Mother’s Day

Posted on May 9, 2023 by Editor

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

We had one low pressure area push off to the east today but then another weak one set up off the central Oregon Coast, but any weather associated with this one will have little affect on our area this evening. We will see some clouds tonight with the winds becoming more northerly this evening, then becoming light and variable tonight, the low near 43.

The last upper level low pressure area moves inland and weakens tomorrow leaving us with mostly sunny skies, the winds becoming northwesterly 5-10 by the afternoon, highs near 63. We see some clouds move in tomorrow night, winds becoming northerly then diminishing, lows near 44.

Thursday, we have a high pressure ridge building in that will dominate our weather pattern the rest of the week, peaking over the weekend before it weakens some for the start of next week. So, Thursday’s forecast is for mostly sunny skies, winds becoming westerly 4-8, the high near 65. Look for partly cloudy skies Thursday night, lows near 47.

Friday brings mostly sunny skies again with the ridge continuing to build in over the region, light winds, the afternoon highs climbing to near 73. With some mostly clear nights, the low still only drops to near 54.

Saturday, we pick up some easterly winds which further heats and dries things out so looks for sunny skies with the afternoon high climbing up to near 83. Still the clear skies Saturday night, the lows dropping to near 64.

Then Sunday, AKA Mother’s Day, the ridge of high pressure peaks and we see an increased offshore flow with the high Sunday climbing up near 88, mostly clear again that night, lows near 60. Just to add a little suspense to the weekend weather, a few of the models put us under a more southerly flow which would give us lower afternoon high temperatures in the upper 60s.

As for next week, we think the ridge will weaken some as a trough of low pressure approaches from the west. This would cool us down a little with the highs then in the mid 70s.
