On May 13th at approximately 12:10 pm, Cannon beach Fire District and Seaside Fire & Rescue were dispatched for a man and a dog stuck on a cliff on the Indian Beach trail in Ecola State Park. Cannon Beach Fire personnel were able to contact the girlfriend and obtained location information that they wereon the trail leading from Ecola parking lot. Cannon Beach Fire and Seaside Fire personnel made their way out to the location and found the man and dog uninjured about 75 feet down a steep embankment. A rope resuce system was put int place, sending 2 rescuers down on ropes to bring the man and the dog back up. The man and dog were not injured in the fall. The Coast Guard was on scene standing by to assist if needed. Cannon Beach Fire and Seaside Fire had 11 personnel on scene.

Cannon Beach Fire District and Seaside Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone to abide by state park regulations; keep dogs on leash, and keep ahold of small children for their safety on trails. Many trails in our state and local parks have steep cliffs and rugged terrain; we would like to remind visitors to NOT cross fences and barriers that are put in place for safety – the perfect social media photo is not worth your life. Remember that trail edges can be fragile and cause hikers to lose footing.
Cannon Beach Fire District would like to thank Seaside Fire & Rescue, Seaside 911, and US Coast Guard for thie assistance with this rescue.
