GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 5/17/23

Posted on May 17, 2023 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer
Wednesday, May 17, 2023

The coast, with its cooler marine layer, continues to see highs in the 60s while over in the valley the temperatures continue to climb into the 80s with a few spots reaching into the 90s. The downside to the cooler temperatures is the marine clouds that move in at night then burn back some each afternoon. We can look forward to more of the same tonight along with some patchy fog late, calm winds, the lows tonight near 54.

The onshore flow will increase some tomorrow as the ridge continues to build so we stay mostly cloudy tomorrow, surface winds westerly 4-8, the high near 65, then more marine clouds move in tomorrow night along with the patchy fog late, calm winds, lows near 53.

We see partly sunny skies Friday, winds becoming northwesterly 5-10, highs near 68, increasing clouds Friday night, and the patchy fog returns, the low still around 53.

The ridge starts to weaken Saturday as a trough of low pressure is knocking on the door to the west which leads to a mostly cloudy day, the high near 68, the low falling to near 51.

Sunday the trough approaches the coast as the ridge shifts further east and this brings partly sunny skies, the highs near 63, and with lower pressure to the west and high pressure to the east, the pressure differences give us a breezy night with mostly cloudy skies, the low down near 48.

The trough does give us a slight chance of showers under mostly sunny skies on Monday, the high near 62, then the clouds and the breezy conditions return Monday night, lows near 45. Tuesday looks partly sunny and 63.
