GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather – 7/7/23 – Still pretty nice…

Posted on July 7, 2023July 7, 2023 by Cara Mico, Assistant Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

Well, the onshore flow increased last night which pushed the marine clouds into the coast, and over into the valley, which has cooled things down and pretty much ended the heat wave. With the push, the coastal marine layer were thicker, so the clouds were slow to give us sunbreaks with some areas staying cloudy all day. Obviously, tonight will be another cloudy one, still the calm winds, lows near 50.

The weather picture changes little tomorrow though the marine layer will likely be a little thicker so we could see some patchy mist or drizzle in the morning hours, but the clouds do break up in the afternoon, winds again becoming westerly 5-10, highs near 64. The stratus returns tomorrow night, calm winds, lows near 50.

Sunday, we see a weak trough of low pressure approaching then moving across Sunday night, this will bring us mostly sunny skies during the day Sunday with northwesterly winds 5-10, highs near 66, and the marine clouds returning Sunday night, calm winds, lows near 52.

An upper level weak low pressure area moves across to the north starting Monday, through Washington into Canada, so we see partly sunny skies with highs near 64, then a partly cloudy night, lows near 51.

Tuesday the low continues to push off to the east and the ridge of high pressure builds again so we see a mostly sunny day with highs near 67, and a mostly clear night though some patchy fog is possible, lows near 49.

We actually see little change in the pattern the rest of the week, so mostly sunny skies Wednesday and Thursday, highs near 68, partly cloudy nights, lows near 50.

In other words, we are looking at a typical summertime coastal forecast.
