GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 9/12/23 – Mini Heat Wave for Valley, Warm Temps on the Coast Later This Week

Posted on September 12, 2023September 12, 2023 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer
Another weak and dying front moved across this afternoon, giving us increased cloudiness and some lucky coastal folks even had some light drizzle, especially to the north. We hang on to the chance of drizzle tonight through around midnight, then with calm winds, patchy early morning fog is possible, the low around 52.

We see fewer clouds tomorrow so look for mostly sunny skies, the winds becoming northerly 8-12, afternoon highs near 72. A ridge of high pressure starts building in tomorrow night, bringing mostly clear skies, light winds, lows near 51.

Thursday the ridge continues to build and drift towards the area, so we see sunny skies, winds northerly 8-12, the high climbing up to near 77. We see mostly clear nighttime skies, lows near 54.

The ridge moves over the area Friday, and we peak with the warmest temperatures, the afternoon highs around 78, still mostly clear skies Friday night, lows near 52. Over in the valley, they are looking at highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.

The weekend looks a little cooler as the ridge continues to drift east and the pressures lower, so with sunny skies Saturday still, the high is down near 73, mostly clear skies expected still that night, lows near 51.

Sunday looks sunny and 71 then the models suggest a trough of low pressure will be pushing towards the area, so we see a few clouds moving in Sunday night, the low near 52.

Monday is likely partly sunny with a slight chance of light showers, the high only near 69.

The mini-heat wave expected into Friday does increase the fire dangers, especially east of the Coast Range. With the higher temperatures, lower humidities, and some easterly winds in the valley, though not that strong, near critical fire dangers are a concern from late Thursday through late Friday.
