We have high pressure building in over the area today that explains the patchy fog this morning, and with the clear skies last night, the overnight low dropped to 30. After this, we were left with a mostly sunny day for a change, but it was only for the day as we have clouds moving in this evening ahead of an approaching system. We will likely see some patchy fog again tonight first though with some light east winds, the overnight low near 35.
Tomorrow things will get complicated with a couple of fronts affecting the area. One is pushing south with some modified Arctic air that will help to keep things cool and bring some rain later tomorrow morning along with some easterly winds 10-15 gusting to 20. Again, this keeps us cooler with the high near 48. We will also be watching a low pressure area that is developing to the west this evening and will head east towards the Oregon/Washington border area. All this is making for an interesting potential outcome, mainly for over towards Portland and up into the Gorge and Hood River areas. The impact for is the potential for rain, snow, or freezing rain across the passes. There are two potential outcomes, one is that the cold air modifies, and everyone sees cold rain. The other is that the cold air does not modify much, and this would put the snow and ice in the passes and potentially some low snow in Portland. In both cases, it looks like the Gorge and Hood River areas, along with the Cascades Passes, are all looking at snow, the question is, just how much snow?
After all that, now we can talk about tomorrow night, which is easy, still cloudy, and rainy but with southerly winds 8-12, the low now only down to near 42 as we watch the next system moving up from the southwest.
The rain continues Thursday with the winds still southerly 10-15 gusting to 20, the high back up to near 52. Know the summit could be seeing snow in the early morning hours, but it should also be warming across the passes as well with the southerly winds so it looks like all rain later for them as well. More rain likely Thursday night, the winds southeasterly 8-12, lows near 42.
Friday looks cloudy, rainy, and breezy still with daytime highs near 52, and nighttime lows near 42. More rain for Saturday with a chance of rain still on Sunday, the highs in the mid 50s, and the lows down near 40.
It looks like we have yet another system making rain likely for Washington’s Birthday. Correct me if I am wrong, but did I not have folks wishing for rain this past fall? I think you may have wished to strongly! So much for El Nino’s warmer and drier, at least at the coast!
