GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 2/15/24 – Rain … More on the way

Posted on February 15, 2024 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

And the rain just keeps on coming, in the last 24 hours, the Tillamook area has seen between 1 ½ to 2” of rain with more on the way. At 7:13am Tripcheck was reporting that the summit was 33 degrees with 2” of new snow, 6” roadside; at the airport, the morning low temperature was 43. So, the system that gave us the last rain is pushing northeastward through Washington leaving just some patchy light drizzle here at the coast though there is still a chance of showers through the early afternoon, and the snow level lifted to near 2500’. It looks like we keep the chance of showers tonight with the moist flow still over the area, surface winds easterly 5-10, the low tonight near 40. As for more snow in the Coast Range passes, there is still a chance of snow, a mix, or even freezing rain tonight into tomorrow morning when things warm up in that area as well.

The shower chance eases tomorrow morning under mostly cloudy skies, then increases again late morning as the next front, that had been waiting patiently offshore, pushes towards the coast, the easterly winds becoming breezy 15-20 gusting to 30, highs near 49. We see more showers tomorrow night that transitions over to rain just after midnight, still the breezy east winds 15-20 gusting to 30, lows near 40.

The rain continues Saturday with easterly winds 10-15 gusting to 20, highs near 51, the rain transitions back to showers behind the front a little before midnight Saturday, the winds becoming southeasterly 8-12, lows near 42.

We keep a trough of low pressure hanging off the coast Sunday as we watch a low pressure system developing in the trough to the south off of northern California. Without some indefinite steering currents, the direction of movement of this low is hard to determine, so for now, we go with a chance of showers under mostly cloudy skies from Sunday on through the middle of next week, highs in the mid 50s, lows in the low to mid 40s.
