Bruce Lovelin Announces Candidacy for Tillamook County Commission Position 1

Posted on March 16, 2024 by Editor

EDITOR’S NOTE: Lovelin had originally declared candidacy for Position #2. Before the deadline, Lovelin switched his candidacy to Position #1. In addition, Thomas J. Fiorelli withdrew from the Tillamook County Commissioners race.

Tillamook County, OR – Bruce Lovelin, a dedicated resident and proprietor of a local small business in Tillamook County, has officially announced his candidacy for Position 1 on the Tillamook County Commission. In a recent statement, Lovelin expressed his eagerness to collaborate with fellow candidate Paul Fournier, who is contending for County Commissioner Position 2.
“I had a fruitful discussion with my colleague Paul Fournier, and it became evident that we share numerous common objectives,” said Lovelin. “I am enthusiastic about the prospect of partnering with Paul on the County Commission. His energy, innovative ideas, and visionary outlook will drive the county towards a fresh and progressive path.”

Addressing his perspective on other candidates, Lovelin remarked, “I have had constructive discussions with Jeff Spink and value many of his insights as well.”
Tillamook County currently grapples with a financial dilemma, as projected expenses are anticipated to surpass revenues. Lovelin underscored the recent decision by the state to curtail Tillamook State Forest timber harvest revenues, resulting in an additional revenue deficit of $2 million, as highlighted by Commissioner Olsen.
Incumbent Erin Skaar has placed emphasis on priorities such as tackling the housing shortage, homelessness, and addiction. In response, Lovelin commented, “While her objectives are commendable, they must be balanced with the needs of Tillamook residents. Our impending financial crunch necessitates a holistic focus on all aspects of Tillamook, both in the short and long term.”
Alongside concerns about county financial management, Lovelin’s agenda includes the streamlining of government processes, promotion of sustainable economic development initiatives, stopping wasteful spending, bolstering public safety measures, and fostering an improved business environment. “I advocate for workforce housing initiatives and firmly believe that by minimizing bureaucratic hurdles, the market will organically address the demand. Relying on financial subsidies and property tax deferments is not a sustainable strategy. Tillamook County holds a special place in my heart, and I am honored to call it home. If elected, I will bring a fresh perspective to the County Commission. The upcoming May election will be pivotal for shaping the future of our County,” he stated.
