BAY CITY ARTS CENTER ARTISTS OF THE MONTH FEATURES LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHERS, OPENING RECEPTION FRIDAY NOV. 7

Posted on November 6, 2025 by Editor

The Third Annual Artist of the Month photography exhibition kicks off at Bay City Art Center at 5:00 on Friday, November 7th. The show will run throughout the month of November and will feature local photographer Don Backman and other local photographers who have taken photography courses offered at Tillamook Bay Community College.

The show will also feature work by local mosaic teacher and Zentangle artist, JoAnn Critelli, and some of the people she has instructed. “Critelli has her own studio and does amazing glass work,” Backman explained.

In addition to Backman and Critelli as featured artists, the show also spotlights Tillamook County residents Brett Hurliman, John Garcia, Lonny Paul, Dana Carlson, Dana Aufdermauer, Romy Carver, and Katharine Beets-Bradley. “This is always a fun event,” Backman said. It’s great to see the work these folks are showing. They have really grown as artists.”

Each year, the show is open to anyone who has taken a class from Backman or Critelli, or an art class from TBCC. “I try to reach out to everyone who has successfully completed a class,” Backman said. “That is easier said than done, but it is the only real criteria. The goal is to provide an opportunity to show their work, and a venue to sell work for those who want to.”

The opening reception is scheduled from 5 pm to 7 pm, Friday, November 7th at the Bay City Art Center, at 5680 A St, Bay City, OR 97107. “Some of these folks have done really well at the Tillamook County Fair,” Backman noted. “They have some amazing work. Come check it out.”
