Tillamook County is currently experiencing a second round of flooding, starting December 18th and continuing through today December 19th, resulting in multiple road closures throughout the county. Due to hazardous conditions, local schools have canceled classes for the day, and many businesses are modifying their operating hours.
The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to prioritize safety and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Flood waters can be deceptive, fast-moving, and extremely dangerous.Sheriff Joshua Brown has directed deputies to stop and issue citations to motorists who drive past clearly posted “Road Closed” signs and attempt to travel through flood waters.
“We have already had multiple water rescues this morning, which pull and strain valuable emergency resources in preventable situations,” said Sheriff Brown. “These incidents place both the public and first responders at unnecessary risk.”
The Sheriff’s Office urges residents and visitors to follow all posted road closures, use alternate routes, and delay travel when possible. Driving through flood waters can lead to loss of vehicle control, hidden roadway damage, and life-threatening conditions.
