The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking applicants to join our Search and Rescue (SAR) Team!
Our next SAR Academy is tentatively planned for late spring / early summer, and we’re looking for dedicated community members who want to make a difference when people need help the most.
The academy will cover all requirements established by the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association SAR standards, including:
• Safety and risk management
• Map and navigation skills
• Computer mapping software
• Applicable laws and SAR policies
• Radio communications
• CPR / First Aid and patient care
• Search theory and field operations
• Incident Command System (ICS)
• Helicopter safety
• Motorized rescue stoke operations




The academy will be held at Tillamook Bay Community College one evening per week for approximately 10 weeks.
Additional training opportunities may include:
• ATV / Side-by-Side / electric motorcycle operations
• Rope rescue (operator and technician levels)
• FAA-certified drone pilot training
As a certified SAR member, you will become part of a highly dedicated volunteer team serving Tillamook County. Members are issued a full uniform, climbing helmet, and a rescue backpack with medical and safety equipment, and continue to train regularly throughout the year.
