Philo Hospitality, a hospitality investment and operating company focused on outdoor recreation markets across the western United States, announced March 5, 2026 that it has acquired and will operate Surfside Beachfront Resort, a 70-room beachfront hotel in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.
The property was acquired from the Kim family, who have owned and operated Surfside and other Oregon Coast hotels for more than 20 years. Philo Hospitality officially closed on the acquisition on January 30, 2026, and will continue operating the hotel under the Surfside Beachfront Resort name.
Located directly on the beach, Surfside Beachfront Resort offers guests immediate access to the Oregon Coast, including 36 rooms with unobstructed oceanfront balcony views. The resort features direct beach access, a heated indoor pool, and 54 rooms with full kitchens, appealing to leisure travelers and regional drive-to visitors from across the Pacific Northwest.
“Beachfront locations like Surfside are rare, and that’s what makes this such a compelling long-term investment,” said Easton Hill, VP of Hospitality, Philo Hospitality “It’s an idyllic place to visit, and happy guests are good for business. This property fits squarely within our operating sweet spot.”
Philo Hospitality plans to invest approximately $24,000 per room in renovations, with a focus on updating bathrooms, flooring, and other cosmetic improvements while preserving the character and appeal that have made Surfside a favorite among returning guests. All existing staff positions will be retained, with opportunities for expanded hours as occupancy continues to grow.
“We believe in owning great locations for the long term,” said Jon Hooke, President, Philo Hospitality. “When you buy the best real estate, the focus shifts to continuous improvement, serving your guests well, and being a responsible operator in the community. We’re also excited to build on what’s already working at Surfside, which includes an outstanding team in place and a strong foundation we can support through thoughtful operations and ongoing investment.”
The Surfside acquisition reflects the company’s continued interest in the outdoor-driven leisure markets across the western U.S. Philo Hospitality is actively seeking additional acquisition opportunities in outdoor recreation destinations, targeting hotels with 75 to 150 rooms and strong existing revenue performance.
