On Sunday March 22, 2026, at approximately 1:11 p.m., the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) received reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at the Rockaway Beach Wayside in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.
Initial information indicated that a pregnant adult female, who was carrying her two-year-old son and walking with her husband, was struck by a silver Jeep Patriot in the parking area. After the vehicle stopped, the husband confronted the driver regarding the accident. During that confrontation, a male passenger exited the vehicle and stabbed the husband in the back with a weapon. The suspect then reentered the vehicle, and the vehicle fled the scene.
After only traveling a few blocks away, the vehicle stopped and the female driver returned to the area on foot, where she cooperated with TCSO deputies. During the investigation, deputies learned the suspect fled on foot and attempted to avoid detection by changing his clothing. Through the quick response and coordinated efforts by TCSO deputies, the suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody without further incident.
The pregnant female and her two-year-old son sustained injuries during the incident but are expected to be okay. The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a stab wound and is expected to recover.
The suspect, a 25-year-old adult male, was lodged at the Tillamook County Jail on the following charges:
•Assault in the First Degree (ORS 163.185)
•Menacing (ORS 163.190)
•Unlawful Use of a Weapon (ORS 166.220)
•Disorderly Conduct (ORS 166.025)
“This incident escalated quickly and had the potential to result in far more serious injuries,” said Sheriff Josh Brown. “I am proud of the swift response by our deputies and thankful for the assistance from the citizens who were present and helped provide information during the incident.”
This case has been forwarded to the Tillamook County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
