COLLECTING SUNSETS: The River and the Wren

I went walking through a familiar forest this morning and was almost overwhelmed by the volume of two distinct sounds that flooded the air. Harbingers of the season of renewal, their echoes resonated ringingly, both as individuals and as a pair.

An assertively joyous tune from a bird whose call I know quite well. And the thundering of a river known as Wilson filled the canyons thanks to weeks of rain-fueled swell.

The water roar was constant, occasionally accosting my senses as just one. It was never long, however, before the wren would join in concert, not to be outdone.

Such roiling waters that recharge our aquifers, and ardent songs volleyed through canopies that lead to the next generations of avian friends – serve to remind me that it’s not only nature’s tranquility that is capable of providing us with Zen.

And so it was that the full and pleasing voices of both the river and the wren were the first entities of this new spring to excite and inspire my pen.
