On Sunday May 3, 2026 at approximately 9:47 P.M. Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash into the Nehalem River in downtown Nehalem. Responders arrived on scene to find the occupant of the vehicle on shore and the vehicle completely submerged.
Thanks to the quick action of a good Samaritan, who witnessed the incident and acted swiftly by jumping in the water and breaking out the back glass of the vehicle to assist the trapped occupant, no one was seriously injured. Both the occupant and the good Samaritan were evaluated for medical care by EMTs.
The occupant was transported by ambulance to Tillamook Adventist Hospital for further evaluation.
