City of Rockaway Beach Announces 2026 Fourth of July Honorees

Posted on June 19, 2026 by Editor

The City of Rockaway Beach is proud to announce its 2026 Fourth of July Parade honorees, recognizing two outstanding selections whose dedication, generosity, and community spirit embody the very best of Rockaway Beach.

Grand Marshal: Barbara Trout

Barbara Trout has been named Grand Marshal for the 2026 Fourth of July Parade, fittingly aligned with this year’s theme, “Generations by the Sea – Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom.” A fourth-generation Rockaway Beach property owner, Barbara’s family roots stretch back to the 1920s, and her lifelong contributions reflect a deep connection to the community.

Barbara has dedicated decades to public service and volunteerism. She has served for 30 years as an elected Tillamook PUD director and has contributed her time and leadership to numerous local organizations, including the Neah-Kah-Nie School District Board of Education, Meals for Seniors, the Rockaway Beach Parks and Recreation District, Tillamook Kiwanis, the Pioneer Museum, and the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center.

Her generosity is both broad and personal—supporting food programs, growing and sharing produce from the community garden, volunteering for fundraisers, and providing essential support to those in need. Known for her kindness and creativity, she also handcrafts quilts for donation to individuals and community organizations.

Widely recognized as a “giver in every sense of the word,” Barbara’s enduring commitment to Rockaway Beach makes her an exceptional choice for Grand Marshal. Her legacy of service, leadership, and multigenerational ties exemplifies the spirit of this year’s celebration.

Volunteers of the Year: Leon and Teri Bruneau

Leon and Teri Bruneau have been selected as Rockaway Beach’s 2026 Volunteers of the Year in recognition of their extraordinary service and lasting impact across the community.

Since 2013, the Bruneaus have been deeply involved with Meals for Seniors, where Teri currently serves as Board President and Leon contributes countless volunteer hours supporting operations, fundraising, and meal preparation. Their efforts have ensured that seniors across the region receive not only nutritious meals but also connection and care.

Their commitment extends even further through the creation of the Family Fund, a program they helped establish to support local children and families in need. The Family Fund provides holiday gifts, meal boxes, utility assistance during times of crisis, and summer lunch programs for children when school is out. Through their leadership, the program has grown into a vital resource serving families throughout Tillamook County.

In addition to organizing programs, Leon and Teri actively lead volunteer efforts—recruiting, coordinating, and inspiring others to participate in delivering meaningful support. Whether preparing meals, assembling holiday baskets, or stepping in wherever needed, they are known for their willingness to help and their tireless work ethic.

Described by those who know them as humble, compassionate, and unable to turn away from someone in need, Leon and Teri Bruneau exemplify what it means to serve a community. Their leadership and generosity have strengthened essential services and improved lives across Rockaway Beach and beyond.

Celebrating Community

The City of Rockaway Beach invites residents and visitors alike to join in celebrating these remarkable individuals during the 2026 Fourth of July Parade. Their dedication reflects the values that make Rockaway Beach a vibrant and connected community.
