Siuslaw National Forest Recruiting Volunteers for Resource Advisory Committee

Posted on June 20, 2026 by Editor

(Corvallis, Ore., June 17, 2026) — Volunteers are needed for the Siuslaw Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). This 15‑member committee represents a wide range of community interests and provides recommendations for how Title II funds are allocated for projects related to recreation, maintenance, and ecosystem restoration on or near the Siuslaw National Forest.

Title II funds are part of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self‑Determination Act, which returns a portion of federal timber sale revenue to counties with National Forest lands. The funds are dedicated to projects that improve forest health, restore watersheds, maintain roads and trails, enhance habitat, reduce invasive species, and support other critical restoration efforts. Resource Advisory Committees review and recommend these projects to ensure these funds are invested in work that benefits both local communities and public lands.

“The Siuslaw Resource Advisory Council plays an important role in guiding how we use Title II funding in the counties we serve,” said Becca Brooke, Siuslaw National Forest Supervisor. “Over the last four years, the council’s recommendations have helped us allocate over two million dollars of timber revenue towards essential restoration projects lead by local non-profit partners, county and state agencies, and Siuslaw National Forest employees. We encourage anyone who wants to make an impact on public lands to apply.”

Committee members represent a wide variety of backgrounds and interests including Native American tribes, government agencies, industry representatives, environmental advocates, recreation groups, and local residents. Members serve four-year terms and are expected to participate in biennial RAC meetings. The time commitment is generally 16 hours per year.

The Siuslaw National Forest will be recruiting members for its Resource Advisory Council through the fall of 2026. Apply early to be considered and a background check is required.

For more information about serving on the, email the Siuslaw RAC team at SM.FS.siuslaw_RAC@usda.gov and visit the Siuslaw National Forest Committee webpage at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/siuslaw/working-with-us/committees.
