Listen, learn and engage with a focus on the creation and evolution of the American Declaration of Independence as we celebrate its 250 anniversary. Marc C. Johnson, a political historian who lives in north Tillamook County, will lead this program with a presentation about how the Declaration came about and how its meaning and importance have shaped American and world political thought since 1776.
Abraham Lincoln, said just before the Civil War: “The authors of [the Declaration] set up a standard maxim for a free society,” and Lincoln drew heavily upon the Declaration and its meaning during the nation’s darkest hour. Bring your questions, insights and interest to help us celebrate the Declaration of Independence at 250.
