Walking – Making a Difference
A short while ago I found myself thinking about dressing like my puppy Ollie for our next community walk. He wears black and white so I was confident I had something in my wardrobe.
Anyways, later that morning I was driving south toward Tillamook. This was very near the holiday and traffic was heavy. Even well north of The Cheese Factory it was at a stop-n-crawl pace. Southbound wasn’t moving fast, but we were moving well enough.
A few vehicles ahead was a man in an older pickup truck. As we were passing the sea of cars heading north he reached his arm far out his window, raised his hand, and angrily started flipping everyone the bird! I couldn’t make out what he was yelling; though confident it wasn’t “Welcome to the coast!” He held his finger there for the longest time until at last turning off the highway.
Later that day I found myself asking “So what’s the difference?”
Why am I a 68 year old man sitting at home in Bay City planning to dress like my puppy; while he was bent on flipping off the world?
Or is this simply a glimpse of who we are as a people? What we have become as a nation?
If so, fear not, as Puppy Love always wins!
