EDITOR’S NOTE: There was a social media post that also noted the amount of postcards jamming our mailboxes these days, and most of them aren’t touting the attributes of the candidate. They are attacking their opponent, which leads me to immediately disqualify that candidate. Don’t tell me “how bad” your opponent is, tell me what you’re going to do. And then there is the cost. The campaigns are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars that could be spent to fill our food banks, to give folks that need help gas cards and clothes, or assist with doctor bills and housing. As Jim notes below, and Rep. Cyrus Javadi has said it as well, he didn’t “lie”, in fact he was very honest by switching parties – he lie would have been to continue representing a party he disagreed with. He serves his constiuents – we the people – he listens and he cares about our community. “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”https://www.tillamookcountypioneer.net/a-point-of-personal-privilege-rumblings-of-the-american-experiment/

I truly want to ignore politics as I concentrate on regaining strength, but Max Sherman makes it difficult for me to do that.
Each day seems to bring another large size postcard from him to my mailbox. I know that such mailings are not cheap. I know that it is not voters from Tillamook, Columbia and Clatsop county that are financing the cost of this direct mail campaign. The money comes from “dark money” sources such as Phil Knight, Budweiser and their ilk.
The message disturbs me more than the money. Elites are trying to buy our votes, and not for our benefit.
Max paints his opponent, Cyrus Javadi, as a monster because he was willing to take the adult step of voting to increase our fuel tax.
Fuel taxes are what support our transportation system. With cars getting better mileage and more electric vehicles on the road, the revenue we receive from fuel taxes has fallen. Traffic and road use continue to increase and worn-out roads still need work.
Higher fuel taxes are painful. I believe roads and transportation system consistently neglected will be more painful.
We need a realist in Salem, not some wishful doctrinaire like Max Sherman who believes roads will magically get better by wishing it so.
I find it very odd that Max criticizes Cyrus so vehemently and says not a word about the huge cost increases in gasoline and, especially, diesel caused by the reckless war with Iran started by his “great orange leader”.
