EDITOR’S NOTE: The Pioneer shared some thoughts about the historic election, and asked the question “What now?” and asked for readers thoughts about what they think comes next. Now is not the time to sit back and relax. We must continue to be engaged and involved by contacting our representatives. We the People have shown our strength, and we need to make it clear that we will demand that they work for us. Here is a forum for you to share your thoughts about what our state and federal representatives need to focus on to help us all have the basic needs for a happy, healthy life. Send your “What Now?” thoughts to editor@tillamookcountypioneer.net
Thanks to Donald Roddy for sharing his great perspective, indeed now is the time for love!
The time is now to forgive our Republican friends, family, and fellow citizens. At least what I call the “sane” republicans among us of which I believe are the majority. Yes, you were silent in being bullied while the rest of us were terrorized. But we invite you now in returning to functional discourse and debate on our differences. As for the extremists among you, the “Trumpers” who seized power, it is time now to recede. I would say try again in another 150-200 years; but I believe “We the People” will not allow it. We now are prepared. And honestly, with the current and future ease of accessing knowledge, education, and truth; I see your numbers greatly diminishing. For example, to be a racist in 2026, with everything we now know, would seem impossible no matter your ancestry. So join us then in opening our collective minds as we move toward true equality — in education, employment, housing, and representation. Join us in celebration! As Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” plays in the background, I prepare to hit “send.” For the time is now to live! The time is now to love!
