Astoria Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet May 21 at 11 at the Astoria Golf and Country Club. Newly elected officers will be installed. Elected officers are Regent Nonda Zwald, Vice Regent Linda Goldfarb, Chaplain Doris Dramov, Secretary KathyJo Sunseri, Treasurer J A Magnuson, Registrar Sue Glen.
The Chapter is collecting American flags that are in need of being retired. June 14th, Flag Day, the chapter will retire the flags with a formal ceremony at the Fort Stevens Historical area to which the public is invited. Flags may be given to any member or taken to City Lumber prior to June 14.
Josephine Giles, a fifth grade student at Lewis and Clark School, has been announced as the state winner of the Junior American Citizen poster contest. Her poster was on the theme of “Sailing with the Stars and Stripes to Celebrate the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.” This contest is sponsored yearly by the National Society and is open to youth from pre-school through 12th grade. Josie is the daughter of Michael Giles and Roxie Highfield. She is active in music, art, dance and theater. In her spare time she likes to draw, read and act in theater productions.
Members Macy Yates, Linda Goldfarb, and Sue Glen will be representing the chapter at the State Conference to be held this month at The Mill in Coos Bay.
