ASTROLOGY: New Moon in Gemini June 17th at 9:38 pm PT

Posted on June 17, 2023 by Editor

By Madame Dana Zia

“I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable, beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.” Mary Oliver (who had Sun conjunct Neptune)

The New Moon will be in the busy body sign of Gemini on Saturday the 17th of June around sunset on the west coast. Gemini is the sign of the twins that sparkle in the sky as the twin stars Castor and Pollux in the constellation of the twins. With the New Moon quietly floating there in her dark cloak, we are being asked to be flexible, have a good sense of humor and to dream of magic.

Gemini is the sign of the Zodiac that Mercury directs over with his lightening quick mind and feet. It is the first air sign of spring and is known for curiosity, good humor, creative talents, quick wit and an ever seeking mind. They are also known for being masters of communication and love everything to do with words and language. They are storytellers, musicians, poets, writers and charmers.

Gemini also represents the duality plane we live on. In mythology, Pollux (immortal) and Caster (mortal) are brothers with different fathers and are committed athletes and heroes. But they have a wild streak and enjoying doing mischief. They get the bright idea it might be entertaining to start rustling cattle from Apollo. A big no no. Caster gets killed in the process and Pollux beseeches Zeus to let him die to be with his brother. Zeus (the immortal father of Pollux) won’t have it but allows him to share his immortality with Caster so they can pop back and forth between the sky and Earth but never being on the same plane together.

This is where the concept of separation happens in the Zodiac. Before Gemini there is no separation, Aries is full throttle forward and Taurus is all four feet into pleasure but then we get to Gemini and we see two directions. The mind steps forward to play. Taurus and Aries are more primal and body based, but Gemini sets the stage for thinking and the concept of higher learning.

The New Moon in Gemini is square (an aspect that demands attention) with Neptune the planet of dreamy imagination, intuition, spirituality and idealism. This aspect can bring an experience like driving in fog. It clouds our directions in an effort to draw us into the beauty of life and have us slow down. We have to listen to our intuition to guide us.

My advice for this weekend — Slow way down, don’t make any big decisions, stay light hearted and feel your way along. I feel since the Covid hit, we’ve all been focusing on the seriousness of this duality plane. Let us not forget the other side, the silly, fun and delightful side. Do something spontaneous and amusing. This Moon is here to call you to it.
