I can’t get this question out of my mind: What would our world be like if Kamala Harris had won? I know, I know, why torture myself? But since I’m on that path, here’s what my fantasy would look like. Most consequentially there would be no senile wannabe dictator in the white house. And come to think of it, the white house itself would not be half-destroyed and covered in gold paint. We would have an intelligent and well-qualified cabinet, instead of one full of toadies and Fox news cast-offs. Our country would have confidence that decisions would be made based on consideration and evidence, not on the whims of ignorance and petty grievances. The Jan 6th criminals would still be rotting in jail and maybe their leader, DJ himself, would be right there beside them. And we would no longer have to think of that aging , awful, con man every day of our lives.
Under Harris, there would have been no Elon Musk and his Doge bullies kicking people out of their important jobs. And we would continue the work of the last century of trying to effectively deal with environmental concerns, instead of working to bring back coal and outlaw wind turbines.
A President Harris would certainly not have allowed ICE to run rampant over the citizens of the country, nor would she have attacked colleges and universities with phony charges of antisemitism. DEI would still be a righteous attempt to deal with past offenses. In a Harris administration, we would not have alienated all our previous allies, and certainly not made an enemy of Canada, our best neighbor and friend. Our Olympic athletes would not have been booed and we could still travel to foreign countries without fear of being re-labeled as the very ugly Americans. Would we have attacked foreign countries and saddled almost all of them with illegal tariffs while destroying our own economy? I think the answer is clear. And if the final option in some scenario required military actions, a Harris administration would only have moved forward with much serious discussion and the approval of congress.
There’s so much more. So much chaos that would have been avoided. Threatening Greenland? The Gulf of America? The Trump/Kennedy Center. Abandoning Ukraine. Venezuela? Kash, dancing boy, Patel. Who could have imagined any of this?
I won’t go on. It’s too bizarre and painful. But the ultimate lesson is, that if we survive the next 3 years, we must never let this happen again. I do still have hope that we can come out the other end of this ravaging of our country, of what we previously stood for. We will be deeply scarred, but this disease is curable. It starts with the mid-terms. And ends in 2028. Today I’m just dreaming, but some day in the near future I’ll be celebrating the end of this horror show and welcoming back a return to normalcy and decency under a Democratic president.
