Over the past two days, April 1 – 2, 2026, the Cannon Beach Fire District Rope Rescue team hosted CMC: Rescue, Safety, Access for a hands-on Arizona Vortex workshop. Throughout the class, personnel were taught how to effectively deploy the CMC Arizona Vortex to assist in rescues along our challenging coastline.
We would like to thank Oregon State Parks for allowing us to train at Hug Point State Park even though it remains closed.
We would also like to thank Seaside Fire & Rescue, Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue, and Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office HART for joining in on the training.
The training was put into action on April 2nd when someone was rescued from a ledge 100 feet down from one of the Neahkahnie Mountain overlooks.

This training allows the specialized rope rescue teams to be able to quickly stage the equipment and ensure a safe, quick response. Local fire departments staff mainly with volunteers that have to undergo hundreds of hours of training to serve and protect. Thank you for all you do.
