The City of Tillamook Public Works Department announces sewer system testing for leaks, cracks, misaligned joints and other sources that allow groundwater and surface water to enter the sewer system. Smoke testing will be used with a nontoxic, non-hazardous smoke on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The smoke leaves no residues or stains and has no effect on plant or animal life. It has a distinctive, but not unpleasant odor that lasts only a few minutes, where there is adequate ventilation.
Location: Liberty Elementary School – 1700 9th Street
Impacted Locations:
• 8th and 9th Streets near Stillwell Ave.
• 9th Street and Grove Ave.
Date: Wednesday, October 29th, 2025
Duration: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
What can residents expect? You may observe smoke rise out of manholes and places where cracks in the pipes or dislocated joints may be. If you see smoke in your home, it may mean sewer gases are also entering your home. If you do observe smoke in your house, you should call a qualified plumber to investigate and provide recommendations to remedy.
The City appreciates your patience during this important testing. For questions or further information, please contact the Public Works Office.
