The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), in partnership with the Tillamook County Department of Community Development (DCD), is alerting the public to a recent phishing scam involving fraudulent invoice requests.
DCD staff have become aware of a fraudulent attempt in which individuals are posing as representatives of the Department of Community Development and sending emails that appear to be legitimate invoices related to department fees and services.
Community members are urged to exercise caution and verify any invoice or payment request before responding.
Important reminders:
• Tillamook County Department of Community Development will not request wire transfers for payment of fees or services.
• Official emails from Tillamook County will include the domain “@tillamookcounty.gov.”
• Carefully review the sender’s email address before responding to any payment request.
• If you receive a suspicious invoice or payment request claiming to be from DCD, contact the department directly before taking any action.
“Our goal is to keep the public informed by posting known scam examples on the DCD homepage so residents can better protect themselves,” said Sarah Absher, Director of Department of Community Development..
If you have questions or wish to verify a communication, please contact the Tillamook County Department of Community Development at 503-842-3408.
