EDITOR’S NOTE: We are seeing a lot of messages from folks about how they can help our local food banks, and as noted, the best way is through donations. Here’s a local Tillamook County fundraiser, and see below for more information about how you can start a fundraiser.
Hear Ye Hear Ye!
Our food banks and pantries are empty! And it will only get worse as the federal shutdown appears that it will continue past Nov 1st. Many families live pay check to pay check relying on these community assistance programs. To add to this dilemma, the recpients of SNAP assistance had already been cuts/reduced benefits over the past year. Now stricter guidelines for those needing this food support.
The USDA reports that if the shutdown lasts past October 31, November SNAP benefits will be disrupted. More than 4,000 people in Tillamook County rely on SNAP benefits to buy the food they need to keep their families healthy. Local food pantries are already seeing an all-time high number of clients each month; this freeze in benefits will send even more people to pantries who have finite resources to distribute. Please join me in donating to Oregon Food Bank to assist them in purchasing additional food for our community during this crisis.
Impact: A $25 donation can help provide up to 100 meals, based on the purchasing power of the food bank.
How about joyful challenges among family, friends or work peers? Or all join in together under a fun name, “The super food heros!”
