As Oregonians, we all know all too well the unpredictable power of nature. From powerful coastal storms and flooding to the ever-present threat of wildfires and earthquakes, our region demands a community that’s ready to respond when the unexpected happens. This month’s theme, “Plan, Prepare, Protect,” is more than a slogan—it’s a call to action for all of us to take practical steps to keep ourselves, our families, and our neighbors safe. Disaster preparedness isn’t just a task for emergency responders; it begins at home. We saw an excellent response to our Emergency Management open house at the Library on April 2nd. Let’s keep this ball moving.
Let’s start by building or updating your emergency kit. It should include at least 72 hours of supplies—water, non-perishable food, flashlight, batteries, first aid items, essential medications, and important documents. Don’t forget about your pets when putting your kit together. Next, create a family emergency plan. Know how you’ll get in touch if you’re separated, where you’ll meet, and how you’ll evacuate if needed. Practice your plan, and make sure everyone in your household is familiar with it. Preparedness in Action, today means protection tomorrow. As your police department, we’re committed to being ready when disaster strikes—but our efforts are strongest when matched by a community that’s prepared as well. Please join us on Thursday, May 8th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Tillamook County Library for a follow-up meeting on Emergency Preparedness. Thank you for the continued support of your Police Department. I am super proud of our Team and Community.
Let’s stay safe, stay connected, and stay ready—together
