By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer
Hello Tillamook, with the axis of a high pressure ridge moving over the top of us today, the afternoon high temperature peaked at about 10 degrees warmer than it did yesterday, nearing 70 degrees, under sunny skies and light winds. Unfortunately, the ridge is shifting eastward ahead of an upper level trough of low pressure that will bring increasing clouds tonight, still some calm winds, the low down near 43.
The trough approaches the area tomorrow, Friday, so we see an increasing chance of showers in the afternoon, the winds becoming southwesterly 4-8, the high temperature near 61. With the trough moving across the area tomorrow night we have a good chance of mainly some light showers, the winds becoming northwesterly 4-8, the overnight lows near 44.
The shower chance diminishes Saturday morning by around noon as the trough continues to push eastward though we do see a low pressure area beginning to develop at base of the trough down near central California. For us though this all means we see improving conditions in the afternoon, winds here becoming northwesterly 5-10 gusting to 20, the afternoon high only near 56. We can expect some partly cloudy skies Saturday night with diminishing winds, lows near 41.
Sunday, we see another ridge of high pressure pushing in from the northwest that will push that low to the south, toward the southeast then east, but bring us some sunny skies here with the high temperature Sunday around 60, the overnight low under partly cloudy skies, near 41.
The warmup continues Monday and Tuesday with mostly sunny skies then another slight chance of showers likely returns by Wednesday.
And there you have it Tillamook, and we are off into the month of May already. So, until next week, this is Meteorologist Gordon McCraw wishing you all a safe and fun weekend.
