LOCAL VFW POST RAISES $1,500, GETS MATCHING GRANT – $3,000 FOR LOCAL FOOD ORGANIZATIONS

The Unify to Combat Hunger & Homelessness (UTCH) grant comes from the VFW Foundation. The local VFW Post 2848 received $1,500 in donations from individual veterans and the Elks and Moose lodges here in tillamook. The $1,500 was doubled by the VFW Foundation to $3,000.
The following community groups that address hunger and homelessness will receive $1,000 each:
1.C.A.R.E. for the Tillamook homeless, contact Ryan Herrick
2.Tillamook Junior High Food Pantry, contact Carol Abroguac
3. Oregon Food Bank in Tillamook, contact Julia Wentzel

These donations come at a time of increased need and decreased funding for all of these organizations as Federal funding of some programs has been frozen or remain uncertain in the near future. What can you do to help? Pick up “extras” of your favorites when you’re at the grocery store. It’s gardening season — “plant an extra row” — to donate during harvest to local food pantries. Or, the best way to help is with a donation – and you can donate directly to the Oregon Food Bank Tillamook Services – www.oregonfoodbank.org/tillamook
CARE programs are also in need of support and funding is needed to finish the micro-shelters as well, www.careinc.org
