Lincoln County Indivisible groups are hosting LOVE MELTS ICE, a rally and benefit concert, in front of Newport City Hall on Saturday, April 18th, 3 – 6 p.m. Local musicians will perform on the lawn in front of city hall while rally participants protest ICE’s illegal and immoral actions along SW Hwy 101.
The concert aims to raise funds in support of community members who face multiple threats from ICE. Some of the most negative impacts have been economic due to the loss of work, costs of transportation to INS offices, and the need to hire immigration attorneys. Musicians include the Daray Baye Fall Senegalese drummers, acoustic guitarist Dylan Crawford, singer/songwriter/guitarist Barbara Lee Turrill, and Irish music band Pipedance.
Lincoln County organizations that work directly with the Latino/Mesoamerican communities will be receiving the funds raised by LOVE MELTS ICE include Conéxion Fénix, Centro de Ayuda, and Arcoíris Cultural. These organizations promote cultural awareness and provide support services despite the effects of DHS policies, ICE actions, and federal funding cuts.
