Summer is in full swing, and the market is abundant and busy! Last week we counted 1500 visitors, with 900 of them arriving in the first hour. It has been so fun to see the crowds arriving and interact with so many people in our community at this wonderful weekly event. The layout this year is designed to support flow and community space, with a large food court/stage area, places for kids to play outside the main pathways, and a circular layout that encourages visitors to make circuits and spread themselves out over the market. It’s been a really fun community gathering each week!
But I know some of you prefer to avoid the crowds. The market is busiest between 4 and 5, and slows down after that. Now that summer is ON, more and more of the goodies you are looking for will be available later in the day. There’s been mountains of peaches, fresh berries, corn, and smoked salmon. There are more tomatoes every week, and cucumbers are in full production. My favorite approach is to go to market without a list, and just see what’s available and enticing. Not sure how to use something you see? Just ask the vendor, and they’ll be happy to give you some ideas!
Parking is also a little easier this year. With construction finished, the new parking lot at the City Hall is open. We’re also parking most vendor vehicles on site, so that opens up lots of parking around the market.
Music this week is by Duo Opelio. See you Friday from 4-7 at 635 Manzanita Ave!
