On April 2, 2026 at 12:40pm Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue District was dispatched to a report of a high angle rescue from the edge of a viewpoint on Highway 101 on Neahkahnie Mountain. Crews arrived on scene and made visual and verbal contact with an adult male who was 100 feet below and standing on a small ledge. The victim stated he was uninjured.
Members of the Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue and Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District rope rescue teams were able to safely extricate the victim, who was evaluated by awaiting Tillamook Ambulance crew.
A special thanks to the Tillamook 911 dispatchers, Cannon Beach Fire Protection District, Manzanita Police Department and Tillamook Ambulance crew members that participated in the completion of a safe operation.
