Hello Neighbors and Friends,
Less than 20 days remain in the 82nd Legislative Session and my work continues at the Capitol. I have been meeting with constituents, discussing bills in committees and working on district related matters. There is much to keep me occupied as Sine Die draws nearer.

Committees
|
|
While the vast majority of house and senate committees have concluded their work for the session, Joint Ways and Means subcommittees continue to meet. Joint Ways and Means committees meet on a near daily basis throughout the work week and are comprised of members from the House and the Senate. I have had a wonderful time getting to work with everyone involved.
As a member of the Joint Subcommittee on Education I have been discussing a number of topics such as funding for child care facilities, financial assistance for early child care infrastructure activities, and early literacy.
After a number of informational hearings as well as testimony from those involved in our education system here in Oregon, last week we passed the higher education budget out of the sub-committee on to the larger committee. This is a very important budget for our colleges.

North Plains 60th Anniversary of Incorporation
Last Thursday, after a long day working in the Capitol, I headed back to the district to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of North Plains. It also happened to be Mayor Lenahan’s birthday! And a big thank you and shout out to Tillamook County Creamery Association for donating the ice cream for all to enjoy. The line was never short of a block long to get a scoop.
It was a wonderful way to end a long work week.

Heart for Oregon
I got the opportunity to pray for Oregon during the Prayer at the Heart event up in Portland at the Crossroads Church this last Saturday. I spoke about and prayed for education, the drug crisis and the political climate in our state.

Join me as we talk about what I’ve been working on in Salem, as well as addressing some of the comments and questions coming in over the last few weeks.
Republican and Independent Senators continue to deny quorum. We have heard a number of objections from the Democrat Party and the Unions.
There are people that are paid to have objections. And more importantly, there are people that have genuine objections and they deserve to be addressed. Let’s dive into some of those.
#1 Get back to work and fund education.
#2 Get back to Salem.
#3 10- year old gets pregnant, maybe she does need an abortion. What is my answer to that?
#4 You are not representing all of your constituents.
#5 The people voted to stop walkouts!
#6 You are collecting a salary and you are not working.
#7 You are doing this all to stop abortion rights.
#8 You have given up your political career for this.
#9 Schools are going to shut down, they are not going to get money!

Oregon Legislative Information System

Both committee hearings and floor proceedings are available to watch online. You can track bills and be notified when a hearing is scheduled. I recommend spending some time learning about it by visiting Oregon Legislative Information System (OLIS).
