North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection monthly community meeting on Tuesday, July 29, at 6:00 p.m.
Reminder! Upcoming North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection monthly community meeting on Tuesday, July 29, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary by the Sea Parish Hall in Rockaway Beach. Everyone is invited.
Items on the agenda include:
1. Good news for our wetlands! Oregon Shores, represented by the Crag Law Center, successfully appealed to the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) the decision by the City of Rockaway Beach approving the proposed Nedonna Wave planned unit development. LUBA has remanded this issue back to the City. What are next steps to protect wetlands and the drinking water aquifer at Nedonna Beach?
2.Discussion regarding the current methods which are used to determine where logging and pesticide applications are planned, as well as how to improve that communication to impacted property owners and communities. What are the next steps to end pesticide exposure in our communities?
Movie – The People vs Agent Orange
On Tuesday, August 12, NCCWP will be showing the film “The People vs Agent Orange” in Astoria. We are grateful to have the use of KALA, 1017 Marine Drive in Astoria, for the screening. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the film starting at 7:00 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. We hope you can join us.
Another showing of the documentary is planned to take place in Tillamook County sometime this fall. Stay tuned!
The “Coastal Futures” display has moved to the Main Tillamook County Library. North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection was honored to host and work with Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) students from the University of Oregon who were working on a research project entitled “Coastal Futures.” The project focused on climate change adaptation strategies for coastal communities in Oregon. It was led by Ignacio López Busón, a UO Assistant Professor of Climate Change Resilience. The maps and graphics of “Coastal Futures” are now being displayed on the Second Floor at the
Main Tillamook County Library through August.
NCCWP wants no more logging and pesticide use in community water sources regardless of who owns the land, and it wants an end to pesticide applications near where people live, work and recreate. Safe drinking water and clean air are part of the public trust that we all are entitled to have. Please help North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection safeguard and restore our drinking watersheds. www.healthywatershed.org | www.facebook.com/NCCWATERSHEDPROTECTION For more information contact rockawaycitizen.water@gmail.com
