Last year, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition challenged the Rockaway Beach Planning Commission’s approval of a 28-unit housing development in the Nedonna Beach neighborhood. This development would be built in an area which is classified as a “freshwater forested and shrub wetland” (source: Oregon Department of State Lands maps). Later, at another public hearing, Oregon Shores, and many concerned citizens, spoke out strongly in opposition to the Planning Commission’s approval, but the City Council voted unanimously to approve the development. In response, Oregon Shores took the case to the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). LUBA remanded the issue back to the City Council.
Now, Nedonna Development, LLC has requested that the Rockaway Beach City Council proceed with their application for the development in the Nedonna Beach neighborhood. To address this, the Rockaway Beach City Council will be holding a special public hearing on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 5:30 pm at City Hall, 276 Hwy 101. All who are concerned about stopping this development and protecting these wetlands are urged to attend.
