OREGON DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION (ODOT): U.S. 26 road repair starts tomorrow Aug. 13 four miles east of Necanicum

Posted on August 12, 2025 by Editor

U.S. 26 road repair starts tomorrow, August 13, four miles east of Necanicum

Tomorrow, August 13, crews will set up traffic control, install signs and stockpile materials like rock and pipe. Preliminary excavation may require taking one lane briefly.

Major work begins Monday, August 18:

  • Excavation to install nine perforated drainpipes with rock and filter fabric under all four lanes.

  • Excavation of eastbound and westbound roadside ditches.

  • Repaving with four inches of asphalt across all four lanes.

  • Lane striping and installation of new delineators.

  • Ongoing monitoring for further cracking.

Traffic impacts:

  • Traffic reduced from four lanes to two lanes, one in each direction, Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Four lanes open Friday through Sunday.

  • Expect significant delays and plan accordingly.

Background:

In March of this year, crews removed 100 feet of asphalt across all four lanes at this location due to pavement damage caused by a slide in the area. This slide made the pavement heave upward rather than sink – what our geologists refer to as an “upside-down slide.” This location has been particularly active this year, with ground movement occurring mostly during our wet winters. Underground water pressure is pushing the pavement upward, creating sharp bumps in the road that require frequent maintenance.

A 25 mph speed advisory has remained in effect since then until drainage repairs and repaving can be completed.

Please drive cautiously through the work zone and allow extra travel time.

Funding information

While ODOT’s funding crisis is having a profound impact on maintenance and operations, most projects will continue. These projects are typically funded through separate programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be used for maintenance or day-to-day operations. For more information on ODOT’s funding crisis, visit our website.
