U.S. 26, milepost 13, “the bump” is no more with fresh pavement across all 4 lanes.
As of today, August 28, 2025, all four lanes of U.S. 26 at milepost 13 will have a new layer of pavement and temporary striping after several drainpipes were installed under the road. This means the highway will be fully open heading into the Labor Day weekend.
What’s next:
- Starting in September, crews will continue work mostly off the road, including ditch improvements, tree removal in the slide area and permanent striping.
- These activities may cause only minimal traffic impacts.
Speed advisory lifted: With new pavement now in place across all four lanes, the temporary 25 mph speed limit has been lifted. A temporary 45 mph speed limit will remain in effect until the project is complete.
Ongoing work zone: Although all four lanes will be open, this location remains an active work zone. Crews will still be working nearby, and drivers need to continue slowing down and watching for workers and equipment.
This section of U.S. 26 has been a longstanding trouble spot due to ground movement. By installing drainage to move groundwater away from the road, we are optimistic this repair will improve long-term stability. However, natural ground movement in the area will continue to be closely monitored.
We appreciate the patience of travelers throughout this maintenance project.

Funding information
While ODOT’s funding crisis is having a profound impact on maintenance and operations, most projects will continue. These projects are typically funded through separate programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be used for maintenance or day-to-day operations.
