Posted on July 7, 2025 by Editor

Big News for the Coast!
Join us on July 12th from 1 to 5 pm in Wheeler as we celebrate a major milestone — the launch of the first coastal segment of the Salmonberry Trail!
This 82-mile rails-to-trails project, following the historic Tillamook Railroad, will soon link Wheeler to Tillamook off Highway 101 — offering hikers and bikers a safer, more scenic route through some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the Oregon Coast.
First imagined in 2012, the Salmonberry Trail is finally becoming reality — and it all starts here.
Be part of history in the making. Come celebrate the trail that’s set to transform coastal travel and adventure!
This initial half-mile section showcases trail design and sets the stage for community support and excitement. It’s more than a trail — it’s a movement!

Family-friendly fun 1-5pm, including:

  • Live music
  • Guided hikes
  • Tales of the Trail” history talk
  • Train rides
  • A festive parade
  • Kids’ activities
  • Local vendors offering goods & services

Be part of this historic moment — where adventure, community, and the beauty of the coast come together. Let’s build the future, and ‘Connect the Coast’ one step at a time!

Salmonberry Trail Building event runs 1pm to 5 pm with a Craft making session “Salmon Hats and Hiking Sticks” hosted by Heart of Cartm, 395 Nehalem Blvd, from 1 to 2pm followed by a Parade to show off the creations!
Location; Wheeler Waterfront Park, 500 Marine Drive, Wheeler Oregon 97147

The first outdoor concert, features Kris Steward, sponsored by non-profit Communi-Tea all profits go to the artist. The first concert is the evening of July 12th 6-8pm at Waterfront Park just after the conclusion of the Salmonberry Trail event. Come spend the day and evening in Wheeler, along the beautiful Nehalem River!

The City of Wheeler is partnering with the Salmonberry Trail Foundation to make this trail possible. More on the trail at https://salmonberrytrail.org

Wheeler has a lot of activities to offer this summer, with the Salmonberry Trail event, a 4 concert series, and outdoor adventures. Come join us for some fun along the beautiful Nehalem River.
